The reason(s) for your idea(s). 4. Something you decide after you consider all the information in the story. “ Cock-a-doodle-doo!” cried the cock(公鸡). He stood in the farm-yard and cried aloud, so that all people might hear him. “Cock-a-diidke-doo! How useful I am, for I always get up first. And I cry about as soon as the sun rises to make all people in the house wake.” “Cluck! Cluck! Cluck!”cried the hen from the yard. She was walking about with three pretty little chickens, and trying to find some food for them. “Cluck! Cluck! Cluck! I’m more useful than you. Almost every day I lay a nice fresh egg for my master’s (男主人)breakfast. Then think how useful I am to my mistress(女主人). How many nice things does she make with my eggs for the children? She could not get on well without eggs.”

习题
Last year, I went to Beijing Qizhi Special Education School for community service(社区服务).Before we took the bus, my friend asked me a question, “Why are you here?” I did not know how to answer the question. The school was not far from my school, but it looked like it was in a different world. A group of children were waiting for us. A boy walked toward me. He held my hands and pulled me to the ground. I kissed the earth and tasted nature. I could not understand what he was doing at first, then I was very angry. Though I was very angry, I controlled my anger. A teacher stopped this awkward(尴尬的)silence when she shouted at the boy. “What are you doing right here, right now?” she said. “You will never see your mom again if you keep doing this. Now, say sorry!” “Sorry,” he cried fearfully and nervously. I said nothing, but I realized something about this child. After lunch I asked the teacher for information about the child’s parents. She said that the child was very different from other students because of an illness. His family could not afford to treat him. He needed the kindness of his family, but they had abandoned him. So he depended on the support from the teachers and community service workers like us. I suddenly realized I could answer the question my friend asked me at the beginning of the day. Community service workers help others and make everyone feel better. There are so many people in the world that need help. Playing with lonely children may not make a big difference. But it can light a corner in the children’s hearts, making them know they are loved by people.

While I was growing up, they give me more and more “love”, and I thought it began to hurt me. When I was student, they often told me many rules. For example, I wasn’t allowed to use me mobile phone. However, I thought I was old enough to do what I wanted to do, so I often talked back to them angry. Later, my teacher has several conversations with us. Finally, we came to know that we really loved each other, but the way to get along with each other was not correct. I regretted for treating them like that. They gave me much chances to make my own decisions.

As we know, there are differences between Western culture and Chinese culture. . Let’s look at some words about animals and plants. Most expressions in Chinese about the dog, for example, “a homeless dog”, “a mad dog”, “a running dog” and “a dog catching a mouse”, have bad meanings. . In English, people use the dog to describe good actions. For example, “you are a lucky dog” means you are a lucky person. And “every dog has its day” means each person has good luck sometimes. TO describe a person’s serious illness, they say “sick as a dog”. The word “dog-tired” means very tired. . But in Western culture, “cat” is often used to describe a woman who is unkind. There are many other examples of how “cat” is used differently as well. . People think the rose stands for love, peace, courage and friendship. And the rose is the national flower of England, America and many other countries. . We can learn about many differences in cultures by comparing how some words are used.
